Want to get out of Elo hell? Play Dota2 and LoL at different times during the day.

Ever wonder why you see some people play the game like they're brain damaged? Well, it turns out that our brain functions better at certain times.

According to an article on MSNBC, you may have more success playing League of Legends at different times during the day. The gist of the article is that your brain is at its peak between 11am - 1pm and again between 6pm - 8pm. Your brain performs the worst between 2-3pm and after 8pm.

Thus, it is best to play games like Dota2 and League of Legends between 11am - 1pm and 6pm - 8pm.

If you're like me, you primarily play the game in the late evenings, before bed. Unfortunately, this means you will not be at optimal brain power and, more importantly, your teammates likely will not be either.  This is particularly true if you live on the West Coast and play late in the evenings; most American players you play with may be in a different time zone and would be playing at a very non-optimal time.

Instead, the ideal time to play is between 11am - 1pm, because this is when your brain is ready for tough tasks. Unfortunately, most of us have either work or class during this time, so playing at this time is not realistic (except on the weekends). A good alternative time is  to play between 6pm and 8pm. This is because during these hours, researchers have determined that our brain enters into "wake maintenance," which is when the production of "sleep-friendly melatonin is at an all-day low. Because of this, chances of getting tired now are slim.

Of course, League of Legends and Dota2 have players from all different time zones, which means that what may not be an ideal time for your brain could be ideal for one or more of your teammates. Knowing when the brain is at its peak, however, is useful when you know your teammates' timezones.
